The Courtney Library
This unique and long established Cornish history research centre is open for Members of The Royal Cornwall and academic researchers. Admission to the library is free for Members of the RIC or otherwise £4.50 for a 'Courtney Library Research Pass' which can be purchased on arrival and is valid on the day of purchase. If you would like to become a Member of the RIC and so have access to the Courtney Library, you may purchase membership from the museum. Click here for details.
Use of the Library is by appointment only; please call ahead to discuss your requirements with the Librarian. All our archives have to be retrieved from store. By making an appointment, the Librarian can ensure the relevant documents and workspace are available when you arrive.
The collections consist of approximately 40,000 printed books, pamphlets and periodicals as well as transcripts, manuscripts, c. 25,000 original documents, original and microfilmed newspapers, engravings, maps and ephemera collections including local postmarks. The Library also houses books and periodicals relating to the collections in the RIC’s Royal Cornwall Museum.
