The early nineteenth century was an exciting era for advances in science and technology and the passion for learning led directly to the founding of the Royal Institution of Cornwall in 1818. 200 years later, we will celebrate the pioneering spirit of Cornwall and its people through the ages. The newly organised Main Gallery will tell the story of Cornwall’s technological advances from the beginnings of human activity to the present day using our own objects, interactive interpretation and a series of hands on workshops.

There will also be a giant Ordnance Survey floor map of Cornwall from 200 years ago, which will be alongside the latest maps of the county and digitally-created underground mining maps.
