Mummy on the move!
The Egyptian gallery will be closed from the 28 April. The Mummy will reappear when the new Ancient Civilisations gallery opens on the 8 June

Role Play Loans Boxes
'This has been a really useful resource and has given children, staff and parents something new to explore'.
Role play loans boxes are a great way to get children excited by real objects through hands on, exploratory play. Investigate and try out everyday objects to help children learn about what life was like in the past. Each box comes with costumes and photos to help bring this experience to life.
Cooking
Set up a kitchen from the past using this role play box. Children can explore a range of interesting cooking implements including a potato ricer and butter pats.
Washing
Wash, scrub and squeeze to compare washday now and then. This box is packed with objects for children to try out washing the 'old fashioned way'.
Cleaning
Find out how to clean the floor without the help of a hoover with this role play box full of interesting objects including a carpet beater and crumb duster.
Tea Time
It's time for tea. Set the table using the objects in the box and experience teatime in times gone by.
Time for Bed
What would you have had in your bedroom a long time ago? Use the objects in this box to create a bedroom from the past.
Cornish Giant
Drink from a bone cup, eat from a pewter plate and cook in a cauldron. This box, including princess and giant costumes, is full of interesting objects for children to investigate.
