Mummy on the move!
The Egyptian gallery will be closed from the 28 April. The Mummy will reappear when the new Ancient Civilisations gallery opens on the 8 June

The Cardew-Rendle History Prize - New for 2012

Thanks to a generous legacy from the estate of Harold Cornelius Cardew-Rendle, the Royal Institution of Cornwall is proud to be running the inaugural Cardew-Rendle History Prize.

The competition is open to adults and children.

The adult competition is open to anyone aged 19 and over on 3 April 2012.  To enter, competitors need to submit an original researched essay, 6000-8000 words in length, on any aspect of Cornish history or pre-history.  The essay should also include a 250 word abstract and should be written in a style likely to appeal to a wide range of readers.  A prize of £2000 will be awarded to the winner.

The 18s and under competition will be run in three categories: 11-13s, 14-16s and 17-18s.  All ages as of 3 April 2012.  To enter, we want entrants to choose a Cornish historical object, building, monument or document and to either write an essay about it or to use it as the basis for an individual or group piece of artwork, theatre or music.

The Winston Graham Historical Prize

The Winston Graham Historical Prize is funded by a generous legacy from the author and supported by his family.  Launched in 2008 the prize looked for a work of historical fiction preferably with a clear connection to Cornwall.
