Season of Transformation
Our exciting transformation is continuing following the re-opening of the Mineral Gallery, and this autumn it’s the Nature Gallery that’s getting some love.
The reimagining of this popular space in the building is the next step in a major top-to-toe transformation project. We’re on a mission to reinvent the museum for a new generation of visitors – securing its future while safeguarding Cornwall’s unique and intriguing past.
Like the Mineral Gallery, the Nature Gallery will undergo a unique and contemporary reinterpretation, with a creative, interactive approach to displaying the museum’s rich collection. Cornish natural history will be showcased in new and inventive ways, as the need to connect people with nature and the environment becomes ever more critical.
The Nature Gallery is being redesigned by architects Wignall and Moore, and the museum team are working closely with Cornwall Wildlife Trust to curate the new exhibit. During the transformation there will be a temporary exhibition in this area of the museum, and the interactive family favourites – including dressing up clothes, children’s books and activities – have been moved to other areas of the museum where they are still accessible and ready to be enjoyed by our younger visitors.
The rest of the museum is open, but be prepared for some disruption and glimpses behind the scenes in the next few months as the project gathers pace. Witness the museum’s very own evolutionary process first-hand by paying us a visit, or keep up to date with the transformation and other news here.
