The UK’s Greatest Museum for Cornish Art and Culture | Free For Under 18s

The search for Cornwall’s new creatives

The museum is proud to be collaborating with a range of other arts and heritage organisations in Cornwall to help deliver a large creative work experience programme in 2025.

Funded by Cornwall Council’s Creative & Cultural Investment Plan, the vision is for 150 young people right across the region to work on this project. It will bring together a range of creative practices, from design to music, heritage to screen, and lots in between.

The innovative work experience programme will culminate in an end-of-project showcase; elements of the work created will be included in a large 360˚ production that will be commissioned by Screen Cornwall and premiere later in the year.

We’re offering a week of work experience during which young people (we’re accepting applicants from Year 10 and Year 12) will be supported to develop a heritage and collections response to the creative brief.

Each group of young people will receive the same brief and interpret it within their own art form, supported by professional mentors.

Here at the museum, our Collections, Engagement and Learning teams are looking forward to working with the next generation of creative talent, and we’re excited to see what stories and ideas they want to explore using our collections of art works, historical artefacts, and expertise within the museum and heritage landscape, as starting points.

Artistic Director, Bryony Robins, commented: “This is a great initiative and we’re eager to see the cross-pollination of ideas across different creative practices. It’s a good opportunity for us to showcase the breadth of career paths available in the museums and heritage sector and inspire young people to help us build the museum of the future.”

The application form to take part in creative work experience at the museum is here, and the deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 31st January 2025 – anyone in Year 10 or 12 is welcome to apply. Please note that we expect to be oversubscribed, so try to let us know in your answers what you hope to get out of the experience.

You’ll need to be available to undertake the week-long work experience from 14th July. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 14th February 2025.

Please share with aspiring young creatives far and wide, and keep an eye out for the fresh insights into Cornish history, art and culture to emerge from this exciting collaboration!
